For those of you who want to know all the details they go like this... when you are in the pub and not afk the couch will slowly fill with beer money. The higher your brewery level the faster money will slip into the cushions. The couch has a maximum that it can store. At the garage level it will hold ~100 coins. Add an additional 100 or so for each higher level.
Every player has a different couch so you are not competing for the cash and the beer cash stashed in the couch is persistent which is to say that it will not disappear when you log off. Players who have bought labels will find that the couch accumulates money even when they are not in the pub and when they are offline until the maximum is reached. Offline couch money will accumulate much more slowly however.
When you scrounge into the couch (by clicking on it) your beer money will be increased up to the maximum (50 coins) and the amount added will be subtracted from the couch. The transactions my take a few seconds to complete but it is certainly easier than farming. Of course during keggers and when you are drinking heavily the option of earning your beer money by old fashioned farming is still available. Clyde just wants you to be more comfortable, to have fun, and to save a few clicks!
