Judging contests
Beer Style Competitions

Starting in December 2013 the game includes Beer Style Competitions or "Contests". To learn more about contests visit the Instructions page:contests

Beer style competitions are judged by players. Players can become a judge at anytime and can submit themselves as a judge in a particular contest as long as they do not have a beer label entered in that contest. Judges can "Make a Decision" about a contest anytime prior to the contest close by submitting scores. The total judge points available to a player are divided among the contest entrants.

Judge eligibility

  • You must be a registered player
  • You must have a minimum of $500 brew money in the bank to qualify
  • You must pay a one time Judge Certification fee of $100 in brew money Free! For a limited time.
  • Becoming a judge does not automatically enter you as a judge in a particular contest, see "Judging a Contest" below

Judge points

  • 10 Judge points are awarded when you become a judge
  • 10 Judge points are awarded for every individual contest you judge
  • Players can elect to take periodic training tests to increase judge points
  • Answering a test question correctly earns you points, you receive more points for testing on higher quality beers
  • Points awarded in a contest are not lost, they fully recover for the next contest.
  • Judge points permanently dissappear on any day you do not take a test. Players with accumulated judge points equal to or greater than 2000 will lose 25 points on any day that they do not take a test. Similarly, players with accumulated judge points equal to or greater than 1000 will lose 10 points and players with equal to or greater than 500 accumulated judge points will lose 5 points on any day that they do not take a test. Players with less than 500 points only lose 1 point per day on any day that they do not take a test.
  • If you are a judge in the current contest then your points DO NOT go down.

Training

  • Players can elect to take periodic training tests to increase judge points
  • To be eligible for a test a player must drink a minimum of 5 unique beers within a 1 hour period
  • To qualify as unique the beer must not be one of the players beers, an admin beer, or stock beer
  • To qualify as unique the beer must not have been the subject of a test in the last week
  • Tests can only be taken a maximum once per hour
  • Tests cannot be refreshed, once a test is loaded the 1 hour clock starts whether you answer the test or not
  • Training is only available when a contest is underway

Judging a contest and "Making a Decision"

  • You can elect to judge any contest in which you don't have a label entered
  • You can elect to judge a particular contest at anytime prior to the contest close
  • Once you elect to judge a contest you cannot change your mind and you cannot enter beer in that contest
  • It is not necessary to "Make a Decision" at the time you elect to judge a contest, you may do so at anytime prior to the contest close.
  • Once you make your decision and award your judge points they cannot be altered, subsequent changes to your total judge points will not count in the contest
  • When making a decision you can award less than your total judge points, the remaining points are lost (for that contest) and cannot be awarded later.

You do that yourself Gray... click the 'contest' tab on the game page, click 'judging', then click the link to 'Become a judge'

As long as you have not entered a beer in the contest then you automagically become a judge. From that point forward you can start taking the tests to improve your judge score.
